Trails

What’s wastewater got to do with trails?

To build the Stowe facility, we’ll need to close some existing trails for safety. We understand how important these trails are to our communities, and we’re working with the Whitewater Center and Catawba Lands Conservancy to reroute impacted trails and add new ones. That means more adventure for you, with better connectivity in the existing trail network and a new multi-use path to improve connections over Long Creek.

Thanks for going with the flow. (We promise it’ll be worth the wait!)

There are three trails located on Charlotte Water’s property that needed to be closed for public safety during the construction of the project: the Whitewater Center’s Tortuga Trail and Needle Trail, and the Carolina Thread Trail’s Long Creek Preserve Trail. The Whitewater Center has built the new Field Trip Trail to offset the closure of these trails.

The project will have no impact on the A&E Riverfront Trail or Riverhawk Greenway in Mount Holly.

Stowe connects communities to nature. More trails are coming your way.

We are planning new trail enhancements as part of our Community Benefit Project. We’re committed to being a good neighbor by investing in public resources and amenities on the 90-acre property around the Stowe Facility. These amenities will include:

  • a new educational walking trail
  • a multi-use path on a new bridge over Long Creek
  • a public meeting space
  • and partnerships with local schools on a collaborative STEM program

We’re thankful for the input of community members, whose feedback has been key to helping us envision amenities that will help connect people to nature.
