As spring returns, it’s a great time to highlight how Stowe is helping protect and preserve the environment for future generations.

The facility consolidates several aging plants into a single, high-efficiency system that minimizes impact on the Catawba River and surrounding environment. Advanced technologies, including a five-stage biological nutrient removal process, improve water quality while limiting nutrient discharge.
The project also includes a new maintenance building and a two-story administration building, both designed to meet LEED standards and oriented to maximize solar efficiency. These structures exemplify Stowe’s long-term focus on energy conservation, operational efficiency, and environmental responsibility.

The project also preserves roughly 90 acres of land, protects natural buffers, and minimizes noise, odor, and light pollution for nearby communities.
Energy-efficient systems and reduced chemical use help the facility operate responsibly today while supporting future growth. The facility also uses a water reuse system to conserve water use for irrigation and plumbing,
Through collaboration between Charlotte Water and neighboring communities, Stowe represents a long-term investment in both environmental protection and sustainable infrastructure.
From advanced water treatment to energy-efficient buildings and preserved greenspace, every part of the project reflects careful planning for both people and our planet. Learn more about Stowe’s environmental features and community benefits on the project benefits webpage.
