Public Involvement
Alongside our neighbors and community leaders, Charlotte Water is deeply committed to planning, building, and operating a Regional Water Resource Recovery Facility that not only provides safe and effective wastewater treatment but contributes to the values of our community. We have been and will continue to engage with community members throughout the duration of this project, sharing important project information and seeking feedback on project elements.
As part of the Stowe Regional Water Resource Recovery Facility Project, Charlotte Water has committed to building a Community Benefit Project on the land around the Stowe Regional WRRF to serve as a resource and amenity for the neighboring communities. Community feedback has help shape the elements that we are including in the Stowe Community Benefit Project, which include a multi-use path and educational walking trail among other benefits. Community Stakeholder Committee
Our team has also created a Community Stakeholder Committee that has helped Charlotte Water to understand the key concerns and perspectives of their stakeholders, provide input on communications efforts and opportunities for engagement, and act as a sounding board for key decisions to be made through the project development process for the future Stowe Regional Water Resource Recovery Facility.
This Stowe Community Stakeholder Committee includes a representative from the following institutions and organizations: Catawba Lands Conservancy; Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation; Crescent Communities; DRB Group; Gaston County; Mount Holly Chamber of Commerce; Mount Holly Utilities Committee; Out Teach; Sierra Club North Carolina; DRB Group; U.S. National Whitewater Center; and Whitewater Middle School.
Over the past few years, we have been working collaboratively with members of our Community Stakeholder Committee as we have developed plans for the Stowe Regional Water Resource Recovery Facility and the associated Community Benefit Project. We have listened closely to our committee members to make sure that we clearly understand the interests and needs of the project community. After extensive engagement with our Community Stakeholder Committee and members of our Stowe Project Community, Charlotte Water has decided to develop a multi-component Community Benefit Project.
